Clay Mine Adobe Products 2005
Provide Adobe masonry where shown on drawings as specified herein, and as needed for a complete and proper installation.
Materials:
Adobe: Provide Portland Cement stabilized sun-dried and fast cured load bearing units complying with the Uniform Building Code Wet Soak Immersion Test Section 71.1009
(C) as manufactured by Clay Mine Adobe Inc. 6401 W. Old Ajo Hwy Tucson AZ. 85735. Provide Units of type and dimensions shown on drawings provided by the adobe yard or wet cut with an abrasive saw, all special shapes required. Further, all units will comply with Clay Mine Adobe Inc. Waterproof / Patina Test. Adobe will be submerged under water for 96 hours and then examined for any loss of Patina face when rubbed vigorously. Adobe shall exhibit no loss of material on the patina of the adobe.
Wet Compression Test minimum #300 PSI = IBC & ICC specification.
Flex or Modulus of Rupture Test minimum #50 = IBC & ICC specification.
Mortar: Provide bagged adobe mortar processed by Clay Mine Adobe Inc. for use with adobe. All clay, cement, sand and other ingredients are blended at the adobe yard to insure certified mortar compression. Mix in clean water using a mechanical mixer for not less than three minutes. Use a plaster type batch mixer with moving blades to thoroughly mix the mud to workability.
Joint Reinforcing: 9 Gauge Ladder Galvanized “Duro-Wall” Joint reinforcing in sizes matching the wall thickness. Duro-Wall should be 1” in from the edges of any wall face on both sides , overlapping 12” when needed in the running wall installation. Install Duro-Wall every third or fourth course.
Installation: Lay up the adobe in a running bond unless otherwise noted on the Drawings. Lay up with a 1” horizontal mud joint and a ¾ ” vertical mud joint. All head and bed joints shall be laid in full without voids or ribbon bedding. Comply with all provisions of the local building code in laying adobe. Do not lay adobe Clay Mine Adobe during cold periods when the temperature is below 35 degrees F.
All walls shall have joints fully filled with mortar.
