Clay Mine Adobe, Incorporated was founded in 1996 by Eric Johnson, a native of Tucson, Arizona. Mr. Johnson perceived the present and future needs for a high quality Adobe brick. He researched the industry and the market and confirmed there was a lack of high quality Adobe product. The traditional Adobe was stabilized with asphalt emulsion, which has inherent quality problems. He spent almost four years researching a viable formula for a high quality Adobe product. He prospected to find suitable clay and materials for mining, finding his present location ideal for Adobe production needs. Other expansion locations have been researched as well. He set up the present production facility, and has worked for five years to iron out the production problems that attend the opening of any new mining and clay processing facility.

Mr. Johnson has developed relationships within the BLM, and with county officials and has worked diligently to obtain the necessary permits to set up the present clay processing facility as well as the nearby expansion site. Most of the production challenges have been resolved and the company feels that it has achieved many of it's goals in the areas of product quality, price, production and mining. Automating the forming process is the primary short term goal of the company.

Clay Mine Adobe Inc.'s goal is to take the Adobe industry mainstream with a tough, durable product having low liability. Except for Tucson and Texas, cement stabilized mud Adobe is not sold commercially anywhere in the Southwest. Many local adobe contractors are converts to the cement stabilized adobe products. The company will make it's product readily available to consumers through major distributors, first in the Tucson area, then expanding throughout the Southwest.

Clay Mine Adobe has developed a bagging facility to process bagged adobe mortar and plaster products. Test marketing of the plaster has been very positive and new uses continue to be developed for the cement stabilized material. Among the uses now being tested are pool plaster, interior floor cover over adobe with wax finish, interior application over drywall with Primus Base. The distinctive look of clay plaster is achieved with durable cement stabilization when using Clay Mine Adobe materials. See the color charts and instructions for clay plaster application under clay finishes.
